TONIGHT’S MEETING –
Tues 21 June 2011 – Club Forum – LCC, 6 for 6.30 pm
A Members only night, the agenda will likely focus on the year ahead, with a new President set to rule the roost from 16 July, while the old Rooster is set to become a feather duster. Have your say.
CLUB REVIEW
Club Donations – On 7 June we gave Frank Hankin of the St Vincent de Paul Liverpool Night Patrol a Cheque for $5,000.00 to assist with costs involved with feeding and supplying the homeless around Liverpool, which Frank has been doing for nearly 20 years and for which our club has been supporting him for approximately 12 years.
We also presented Fiona Gould with a cheque for $2,000.00 for the Liverpool Wig Library which works in conjunction with the Macarthur Wig Library, operating on alternate Tuesday’s. Fiona advises we have been supporting her cause for about 14 years now.
It was also announced that we have sent $3,000.00 to ShelterBox Australia. This follows as a result of Students at Fairfield High School presenting our club with funds they had raised for the disaster aid program, which our club has matched and then rounded off.
Letters of Appreciation – continue to be received in relation to our Annual Circus held in April. Two such letters circulated from Autism Spectrum and Allevia have been added to the Web Circus Article.
Vietnam Vision Project Newsletter No. 5 Jan – Jun 2011. Download it here. Heavily contributed to by our members, 12 of whom will attend the 2 week mission 23 July to 6 August 2011
On 31 May – Miller College Awards – A report on the awards and awardees is offered in News and Reports for this Bulletin.
In general;
· Numerous favourable responses have been received commending Liverpool West Rotary on the way it was presented.
· All reported the food to be excellent.
· A vote of thanks together with photos taken on the night and a link to the news article posted to our website was sent to each of the faculties with nominees involved.
· The Fairfield Advance contacted us for information on the awards in relation to running a story on Plumbing Pride of Workmanship, Nathan Wilshire.
· John Quine, Head Teacher for Carpentry and Joinery has written to us to say he would: very much like to discuss an option to establish a Liverpool West Rotary Club perpetual shield. He believes that we could do more at the Carpentry section to promote the wonderful opportunity that Rotary has given the students to achieve their absolute best.
· Kelvin Halls, Head Teacher of Engineering trades rang to say that the night was absolutely fantastic and that he is looking at a means of promoting the awards to the Engineering Students.
· A very much, collaborative approach was enjoyed with teachers deliberating on nominees, most all Rotarians in attendance assisting in various roles, Dr Vo affording visitors a little information on VVP and Louise Smith informing on Drug Arm and the donations made by Liverpool West over a 9 year partnership.
· The Catholic club donated $100.00 of prizes and the staffs were very obliging. The raffle then took $425.00, with prizes on offer to about the same value including our meat tray and thanks to donation from the Beadles’ of a $50.00 Art Max Voucher and a video game donated by the Good Guys at Casula. Liverpool West spent $214.00 on prizes including the $30.00 Meat Tray.
· My thanks then go to all, for their assistance on the night, with attendance of the Satellite Club members including John Chuong, Bach Dang Vo, Dr Le-Duc Hong and Dr Phuoc Vo being very much appreciated.
· We had 46 in attendance with numbers of Teachers and Rotarians comparable to last year but 20 down in the area of students, family and friends with some impact thought to be due in all quarters to the newly announced increase in price. Perhaps we have been spoilt for price in the past, but it was a shame to see the marked drop in attendance from the said area.
Reported by John Gibbs
On Mon 6 June - Hongy Knocks out Master Chef Jay with tapioca and praline sauce. Member Chuc Nguyen spread the news that Dr Hong’s son; Dan Hong would be on Master Chef, (Episode 32) that night on channel 10, where he provided a sample dish and recipe for Pandan chiffon cake with palm sugar and black sesame ice-cream, plated with strawberries, a coconut praline and tapioca to test culinary skills of contestants Jay, Ellie and Dani. The contestants were given 90 minutes to perfect Dan’s dish which unfortunately had to put the sword to somebody, which turned out to be a likeable Jay. According to Dan, nobody got the tapioca right. Visit www.masterchef.com.au to see episode 32
Since leaving the show, Jay has gone onto study under Hong taking work experience at Hong’s up market Asian restaurant; Ms. G’s at 155 Victoria Street Potts Point, Dinner; Mon to Sat, Fri Lunch and Sunday Bar, where the menu changes daily. Congratulations Hongy and Hongy, sounds like a good spot for our Satellite Club to organise a vocational visit, complete with bus.
