The program provides students who have an interest in science with an opportunity to engage in a wide range of fascinating science activities under the guidance of scientists. Participants perform experiments in the laboratories, meet and hear senior lecturers in the lecture theatres, attend site visits and walk around and experience what it is like to be on the campus of a university or tertiary institution. The program also provides information about further studies in science, technology and engineering. It highlights the wide range of careers that allow students to pursue their interest and abilities in the sciences.
One aspect of the programs often commented on by participants is the opportunity to meet and share ideas with students from different schools. Each program includes a BBQ or other social activity.

What they did last year at the University of Sydney
2011 CSI: Cool Science Investigator (3 Days, 8.30 to 4.00 pm, the university supported lunch)
The Sydney Science Experience was held on 12-14 January 2011, for students about to start year 9 or 10. The theme for the 2011 event was CSI: Cool Science Investigator, which involved forensics and all things related. We demonstrated through hands-on lectures and presentations the reality behind a lot of popular forensic television shows. Students performed blood typing, DNA analysis (interpretation of gel electrophoresis), 'cleaned' a digital photograph and undertook fingerprint analysis to collect evidence against six suspects in a mock crime scene that had taken place on our campus.
