This Tuesday, 6 September, David will deliver a 20 minute address on his goals for District 9690 in the 2011/2012 year and will likely update us on the District Redistribution. Carolyn will also address our meeting outlining her special projects for the year which I believe is to do with Maternity Packs for Women in Timor – Leste to reduce the Maternity Mortality. A mother in Timor – Leste has a 1 in 35 chance of dying from Childbirth or pregnancy related complications compared with Australian women who face a 1 in 133,300 risk. David’s first involvement with Rotary was in 1972 when he and his wife Carolyn were sponsored by the Rotary Club of Wagga Wagga to attend District 9700 RYLA.

In 1994 he joined the Rotary Club of Canberra South but following job relocation joined the Rotary Club of Lower Blue Mountains in 1995.

He has been a board member almost continuously since then holding the position of President in 1999-2000 and also all other board positions including several years as Treasurer.

He has been a long standing member of the Australia Day committee, as part of which he initiated the Australian Gnome Convention serving as Chief Gnome for the last six years. David and Carolyn have hosted eight youth exchange students and numerous PACE, GSE and friendship exchange members.

They have both been recognised as Paul Harris Fellows and have been Rotary Foundation Centurions since the program’s inception.

David has served D9690 on the Membership Committee, MUNA Committee, as Assistant Governor, as District Insurance Officer and has completed Rotary Leadership Institute and Club Visioning training.

In 2008 he led the D9690 GSE Team to D7870 in New Hampshire and Vermont USA and was GSE committee chair for 2009 - 2010.

David also organised the Districts first ever President Elects Multi District Convention held at the Liverpool Catholic Club on 12 March 2011, which was reported as a huge success and will put him in good stead for delivering the District Conference on March 23 – 25  at Penrith Panthers Pavilion, which will be known for the duration as Penrith Panthers Colosseum. While Saturday Night will attract some members as we honour Bacchus, The Roman God of wine and Rivalry, David will be looking for our club to participate in the Friday Expo. David will then encourage us to stay and play with drives to picnic areas or a renowned lookout, a short walk to Red hand Caves, the 3.5 Km Euroka Nepean River Circuit walk or simply stroll along the river.

Top Keynote Speakers have already been secured including the CEO of the Electric Car Company.

Save $40.00 per person on full conference package with Early Bird Registration by 30 November.

The Full package without any discount will cost you $295.00 plus accommodation should you choose that option. You may also choose to attend segments only from $80.00. The Friday Expo attendance is free to all and we are encouraged to invite members of the public.

David and Carolyn will look forward to questions from members on this Tuesday night.
