CLUB REVIEW & ANNOUNCEMENTS
SECRETARY’S REPORT
On 23 Aug we were at The Bach Dang Restaurant to hear of our intrepid adventurers travels through Vietnam and Laos. President Ted gave a very accomplished presentation which is now in demand by other clubs in our district.
Last week, we had a good turnout for our first club forum night of the year with constructive discussion and some issues aired that will see a clearer direction for our club over the next 12 months and beyond.
President Ted’s Xmas Adventure was unveiled for the beautiful Batemans Bay. Each and every member would have received the details of this event via email. Our president is now fielding expressions of interest, hopefully by 9th September. With comfortable and relaxed accommodation, pristine waters, on sight pool and plenty of watering holes, my spot has already been locked in.
The Police Officer of The Year Awards Night is on again. The committee and has put in a huge effort in organising this event and in securing top class entertainment.. Our President will also preside over the handling of a very well deserved PHF which we believe will be very fitting to the night and very much appreciated. This is obviously a night all our members and partners should be attending so get your tickets now and join us and the other area club members on 20th September at Liverpool, Catholic Club. We offer our sincere appreciation to the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce who has entailed on a comprehensive promotional campaign that is already paying dividends. Those wishing to walk straight in on the night should pay at our club meeting. This event attracts from 200 to 300 people.
Pride in Workmanship: Jock Cimino is currently accepting nominations for this year’s Awards. Anyone that owns a local business can nominate an employee they feel is deserving of such an honour. Jock is waiting for your call and will even down spanners and wrenches to take down nominations.
Our Annual Golf Day; has hit a particularly large snag. That being the so called ‘Global Financial Crisis’ has frightened most sponsors’ underground. That and the fact it apparently seems no one in our inner sanctum can swing a golf club has made for a very disappointing start to the campaign. As members we have a duty to ensure the Golf day is a roaring success, as it has been in past years, despite current negative trends. We all know someone in our business circle that can come on board, either as sponsor or player. If you can’t find a sponsor, attend the day and play golf instead. Every bit counts. Forms attached to this bulletin
Liverpool Oz tag: Our club board has agreed to fund the competition for 2011 and 2012. A cheque for $1000 will be forwarded to Noelene Newton over the next few days. Noelene will ensure our club’s and Rotary’s logo is part of the uniform worn by the players. Another $1000 will be set aside for next year’s event.
Regards
Charlie
IN OTHER NEWS
In the Liverpool Leader – Gregory Benge has been afforded a half page write up complete with a brilliant photo of him holding up his Laptop on page 48 in our local paper’s edition for Wed 31 Aug. Extract: ‘Liverpool West Rotary noticed Mr Benge’s dedication and awarded him a laptop, a 12 month wireless internet connection and the Miller TAFE Award.’ See Greg’s story online in the leader. In other editions we received further PR, noting that Sally Quan and Greg were joint winners of the Rotary Club of Liverpool West Pride of Workmanship awards receiving each $500.00, a plaque and a certificate.
Sally Quan has also received plenty of mentions and a good write up with picture complete. The opening line: ‘Sally Quan can’t stop smiling.’ See Sally’s story online here.
The edition of the Leader for 31 Aug also had a write up on page 28 of Green Valley Duty Officer Inspector Siobhan Busetto. Siobhan has been on our Police Officer of the Year committee the Past 2 years, with about 60 Officers attending the awards night last year for Vince Sorrenti. JOKES
Scuba Divers
An American tourist asks an Irish dive master: "Why do Scuba Divers always fall backwards off their boats?" To which the Irishman replies: "If they fell forwards, they'd still be in the boat."
One Last Kiss
A tough looking group of bikers were riding when they saw a girl about to jump off a bridge, so they stopped.
The leader, a big burly man, gets off his bike and says, "What are you doing?"
"I'm going to commit suicide," she says.
While he did not want to appear insensitive, he didn't want to miss an opportunity so he asked... "Well, before you jump, why don't you give me a kiss?"
So she does... And it was a long, deep, lingering kiss.
After she's finished, the biker says, "Wow! That was the best kiss I have ever had! That's a real talent you are wasting. You could be famous. Why are you committing suicide?"
"My parents don't like me dressing up like a girl........"
Missing Dog
An old Irish farmer's dog goes missing and he's inconsolable. His wife says "Why don't you put an advert in the paper?" He does, but two weeks later the dog is still missing. "What did you put in the paper?" his wife asks. "Here boy" he replies.
