Rotary Club of Liverpool West Inc.

Last week’s meeting was transferred to a function held in conjunction with other local clubs in welcoming home the Brazilian GSE team. Catherine Ginn, who was sponsored by our club, was the only member of the GSE team able to attend. Catherine and team leader, Graham Wilson, gave a great PowerPoint presentation of the time spent in Brazil with sponsor families and life in a country that is as big as Australia but with eight times the population. Our thanks go to AG John Gibbs for organising this event.

The opportunity was also seized to present our treasurer, Mr Gary Halliday, a ‘Gold Companion of Rotary Health’, for his contributions to both the club and Rotary Health over the years. Gary is a great ambassador for our club and Rotary in general and thoroughly deserves the recognition.

The Golf day is on 28th October. Geoff Gibbs will speak to any prospective sponsors and is poised by his phone waiting for calls. Bob Groat is also fielding calls from prospective sponsors of The Liverpool Art Show which is going ahead on 14th November.

Our Pride in Workmanship awards night is on the 1st December. Peter Houghton is looking at applications, so if you have anybody in mind, please let Peter know. Peter has also been frantically working on organising lunch at Danny’s Seafood Restaurant, La Perouse, to coincide with our Westpac Rescue Helicopter Base visit. This is now set for 15th November. Any one will tell you that this restaurant is first rate and Peter has secured a very reasonable rate. Let’s make it a great family day to remember.

I have also organised a Christmas Dinner at Milano’s Restaurant in Lansvale for the 22nd December. I have emailed a flyer and will start spruiking the event in the coming weeks. Again, this is a first class restaurant which I am sure you will all enjoy.

It’s almost the end of the year and with it comes Christmas in Port Stephens and all the other functions we need to attend. It’s also time for our club to hold its annual AGM. That means that President Elect, Mr Peter Beadle, will be announcing his Board of Directors for 2010/2011. If you would like to signal your intentions, then don’t let your inhibitions stand in the way of making a contribution to our great club. Contact Peter now. Otherwise, just wait for Pete to knock at the door.

Our BBQ this week will be manned by Jim Rudling, John Squillacoti and Kevin Walker. I encourage a collection bucket be in place to help raise funds for the people affected in The Samoan Tsunami tragedy as well.

The raffle jackpot will be $70.00 on 13th October.

Charlie.
