This morning I have awoken to a particularly nasty headache, as the realisation of our club’s heavy schedule over the coming weeks has started sinking in.
1st. The Liverpool Art Show opens on 14th November at The Casula Power House Museum. Over the next few years this is going to get even bigger and better than it currently is. There are over 650 entries vying for prizes. Our club was the first club to become involved in it and we want to be at the fore front of organising all future exhibitions. PP Bob is still looking for volunteers to help with preparations between 12 noon and 4.00 pm and others to help with ushering and serving finger food in the evening. Please contact Bob if you can help as he has even laid down scalpels and put off debarking dogs in his effort to make this a success.
2nd. our next Tuesday night’s meeting has been transferred to Danny’s Seafood Restaurant at la Perouse on 15th November. The hangover from The Art Show will be a distant memory as we prepare for lunch with representatives of The Westpac Helicopter Rescue Service. Six members of Cabramatta Club will join with us for lunch where we will be handing over a cheque for $15,000.
3rd. The Vietnam Vision presentation will then be held on 17th November at Liverpool Catholic Club. That’s an amazing three commitments by our club in just four days. Ten VVP members will be attending as will DG Paul Reid and wife Julia. Dialogue with Vietnam Vision has also begun that will hopefully see them form a satellite Rotary Club under The Liverpool West Banner. Joe Cauchi will apparently be making a brief stop over in Australia and is expected to grace us with his presence on the night.
4th. our club has registered interest in hosting the incoming Nova Scotia GSE team along with the other four zone clubs. Our club will need to come up with a list of activities during the time we have custodial rights of the team. Please inform John Gibbs or me of any suggestions.
5th. our annual general meeting will be on Tuesday 24th November. President elect Peter Beadle will be nominating a board for 2010/11.
6th. ‘Pride in Workmanship Awards’ night is on 2nd December. Peter Houghton requires nominations by 17th November. Remember the club will shout the nominee and one guest. Peter has promised to shout the bar if it becomes our most attended awards night.
7th. some have suggested that I lack a bit of class and refinement, so there have been various suggestions to hold theatre nights, possibly sometime early in the New Year. One will be held at the Casula Power House Museum. I will keep all members updated on any progress.
On matters more recent, the proceeds of the Golf Day extravaganza are still pouring in. Treasurer, Gary Halliday, has advised that the projected amount raised is now closer to $14,000 rather than the envisaged $9000. Liverpool Greenway held its Gala Charity Ball on 30th October. Valerie and I attended and thoroughly enjoyed the night. President Wayne Schembri, his wife Maria and the whole of Liverpool Greenway have our congratulations on organising such a wonderful fund raiser.
Last night, Kay Farrell was undeterred by a malfunctioning DVD and pressed ahead regardless, with her presentation of Shelter Box. Kay expressed her gratitude at our club’s past support of this programme and was pleased when I presented her with a cheque for $1200 which will go towards purchasing one of these modern day wonders. Shann O’Connell also brought her nephew; Joe Skuse to last night’s meeting. Joe is studying Veterinary Science in Wagga and was eager to meet with our own resident vet, PP Bob. In all, our members enjoyed an- other stimulating and informative evening, however an enquiry is to be held in to how Geoff Gibbs continually has success in the raffle.
The raffle jackpot will be $100.00 on 17th November.
Charlie.
