Well, the Golf day has come and gone. Thanks to the efforts of Gary, Geoff, Frans, Peter, Ted and of course our sponsors and players, this John Muggleton Memorial Golf Day was the biggest yet. Thirty teams contested the trophy while one hundred and forty attended dinner. Long time supporter, Allan Dowsett, received his Paul Harris Fellowship in recognition to the support he has given this event since its inception. Peter Houghton celebrated his 67th birthday and most importantly, Jason Sanders was on hand to receive an initial cheque for $5,000 with a further cheque of at least $6,000 to be mailed to him in the next 14 days once all monies have been received and paid. We received enormous support from companies and people who worked with Jason which contributed to the success of the day.
Not bad for a day in the life of Liverpool West Rotary Club.
President Elect Peter Beadle has successfully started forging his way towards forming his board for 2010/11. From all indications, members were queuing to signal their intent soon after the recruitment drive was announced. This is a clear sign of the camaraderie that exists in our club and the up beat optimism which is shared by all members. The prospect of a heavy work load is obviously not a deterrent to making the commitment. Alas, we are but three months into my tenure as President, so Peter can bide his time for now.
A big ‘Thank You’ to our resident photographer and club historian, Pat Murray for his wonderful photos of some of our members in action at The Farmers Market BBQ on 10th October. I have forwarded them to The Rotarian and hopefully they will appear in the next publication.
We are due back at our regular meeting place on 3rd November, when Shelter Box spokeswoman, Kay Farrell, will update us on this wonderful programme which helps those affected by natural disasters. This is especially poignant in light of recent catastrophic events in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Our club will make a donation to Kay to purchase a Shelter Box on this night.
Many thanks to ADG John Gibbs who has undertaken the arduous task of organising accommodation on my behalf for Christmas in Port Stephens and also the District Conference in Forster. Commitment sheets and booking forms are sitting in your inboxes as I write this, so please give due consideration and advise John of your requirements. John has also emailed details of the incoming GSE team due to arrive late February 2010. It’s hoped that as part of a five club event, we will play our part in organising some accommodation; vocational visits and social events for one or more of the team members. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
The raffle jackpot will be $90.00 on 3rd November.
