Rotary Club of Liverpool West Inc.

I write this report while thinking how great it is to be a Rotarian, especially one who also happens to be president of such a great club, Liverpool West.

Last night’s hosting of The Vietnam Vision team was the highlight of my year as president, thus far. Not only did we have Dr Phuoc Vo and fifteen members of The VVP team in attendance, we also welcomed our District Governor, Mr Paul Reid, wife Julia, Past District Governor’s, Danny Lowe, Jack Elliott and wife, Joan. In all, The Liverpool Catholic Club catered for forty five people. Paul Harris Fellows were awarded to, Dr William Trinh, Dr Le Duc Hong and Ms Thuy Nguyen. This was followed by a presentation of the work carried out across Vietnam and Cambodia this year, by Dr Vo. We even had Dr William and Stephanie Trinh’s nine year old son Billy; perform three musical pieces on the violin. Special thanks go to all the Rotarians wives who attended and also to Max Bunter for travelling up from Canberra to share in the fellowship.

If nothing else, the function galvanised the relationship between Liverpool West Rotary Club, Vietnam Vision and indeed the Vietnamese community of this precinct.

Last Sunday, members and partners from Liverpool West and Cabramatta Clubs lunched at Danny’s Seafood Restaurant, La Perouse. Later, Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter Rescue Service’s Rita Borg and Crew Chief Tony Woods took us on a tour of their base which is situated nearby. Our club is of the opinion that even though most of us live in the western suburbs, we may still one day require the Westpac Lifesaver Helicopter to save the life of someone precious to us. We were therefore both happy and proud to hand over a cheque for $15,000 to help fund the continued work of the service. Photos taken on the day can be seen on http://www.lifesaver.org.au/ (Scroll down)

Last Saturday, The Liverpool Art Show got off to a flyer. Our members donned their Saturday best to serve finger food, direct traffic and to help with sales. A special thanks to David Ball of Liverpool Club who put his exemplary people skills to good use as MC on the night. PP Bob Groat also deserves praise for his continued support of the Art Show by both helping in its organisation and sponsoring one the categories. I also thank John Mula and Allan Bull for their knowledgeable input in the art shows organisation. The Club had to pre-purchase the tickets for the opening night and it would be appreciated that those who attended and have not yet done so could repay us as soon as possible.

Next week marks a pivotal moment in the Rotary life of President Elect, Peter Beadle. Peter will use the AGM to nominate his board for 2010/11. There are a number of positions yet to be filled so please show your support and nominate yourself if you have the desire to be part of his dynamic team.

The year is winding down. It has been a hectic one for all of us but a very satisfying and fulfilling one. We can look forward now to our Christmas sojourn in Port Stevens, Christmas Dinner at Milano’s and finally home with family, when it matters most.

The raffle jackpot will be $100.00 on 24th November.

Charlie.
