Rotary Club of Liverpool West Inc.

Last Tuesday, we joined with members of the other two Liverpool Clubs in holding the Tri-Club Golf Day at Tree Valley Course, Crossroads. Though only a handful participated in the golf itself, many more were on hand for the gastronomic feast which followed. The Golf side of things saw the usual faces walking off with the prizes, while on the food side of things; our Joe Cauchi etched his name into the annals of BBQ mastery. Thanks to all the boys who attended and in particular those that manned the BBQ and stayed to clean up afterwards. Special thanks to Michael Sullivan for allowing the use of all the facilities at Tree Valley Golf Course again this year. Liverpool Greenway scooped the pool this year, Lowest score – Garry Willer, Runner up – Steve Chensee, Team Trophy and the Bradman Prize when to Pierce Clothier.

There were smiles all round also, especially on the face of Mrs Linda Whyte, after she was presented with a cheque by our club to the tune of $2000. The funds will go towards setting up The Casula Physical Culture Club and all the related expenses in purchasing leotards, etc. This sponsorship is a clear sign of our club’s move towards supporting more community based projects.

A number of our members attended a fund raising event at The Crystal Palace Reception Centre, Canley Hts last Friday in support of The Anh Minh School for deaf children in Vietnam. Would you believe that it only took two weeks of organisation by The Cabramatta Vietnamese Community to garner the support of 800 attendees to this function? That’s incredible and speaks volumes for the character of our Vietnamese friends.

I have been advised by Cabramatta Club that they are having their 50th anniversary celebrations at Liverpool Golf Club on 1st March. I will be attending and hope that as many as possible from our club can do same. Let’s not forget the support Cabramatta has given us on our Westpac Helicopter Rescue Vocational Visit and also The VVP Night held recently. The 2nd March will see our own club holding the first yearly restaurant night at Bach Dung Restaurant, Canley vale. Cost will be $30 p/p and drinks are byo. We will farewell Peter and Kay Farrell on this night.

Gary Halliday is presently scanning all our club banners so that they can be included in modern style roll up banners our club can display at weekly meetings and functions. If any of you have banners in your possession, it would be appreciated if you can bring them along to our next meeting.

Next Tuesday is Australia Day, so please ensure you don’t turn up to Liverpool Catholic Club expecting to be entertained by a guest speaker. That will happen on 9th February when PDG Jennifer Scott (District Rotary Foundation Representative) graces us with her presence. There will be a number of other guests that night which will make for an interesting evening, so please take the opportunity to mark it in your diary as a must attend. Our 2nd February meeting is a club forum and possibly a good time to let me know how I can make the second half of my year as president more productive than the first.

There’s a lot happening over the next few months. The hosting of The GSE team; The Great Debate and the District Conference to name a few, so get ready for the ride of your life as we wind down the days to welcoming in a new Rotary year, a new Board and a new President.

Charlie.
