Rotary Club of Liverpool West Inc.

Last night we enjoyed the company of past District Governor Barry Thompson, from the Rotary Club of Padstow. Barry gave our club some food for thought when he discussed Rotary’s new initiative on Club leadership and administration. Although the new concept is not compulsory, yet, the ideals certainly present a case for change that may or may not be adopted in the near future. Barry highlighted the effects on membership growth, club administration and enthusiasm that has occurred since the Padstow Club started embracing this model some years ago. My own opinion is that the model is worth having a look at. We have a whole new board ready to continue the good platform that has been laid over many years, but this is certainly no reason to rest on our laurels. While not trying to sell the notion that we change for change sake, I sincerely believe that if something can make our club more attractive to prospective members and increases how more effectively we can better serve the community, it has to be a good thing. I challenge our club to step up to the plate, accommodate new ideas and structures and to explore the opportunities and resources available to us.

Now that I have stepped down from my soap box, I would also like to thank Victor Fenech from Liverpool Greenway; Dr Said Khan, personal physician to our roaming ambassador, Joe Cauchi; Peter Farrell for travelling down from Glass House Mountain and new/old member Joseph Cimino for joining us for dinner tonight. Joe Cimino celebrated his return with the apparent same luck he enjoyed during his previous tenure at our club by winning the meat tray! Joe Cauchi is now off on one of his adventures and will return just in time to pack a tube of toothpaste before heading to Vietnam with five other members of our club and The Vietnam Vision Team. Debutantes, Bob Groat and Ted Mlynarz are in for the time of their lives. I will however ensure they acquaint themselves with the 1 ½ tonnes of medical equipment that will accompany us while travelling to and from our destinations. That may be two tonnes actually, as Bob is bringing along a pallet of Margaret River Red apparently. In between enjoying some fun times, the VVP team should also fit in a few hundred sight restoring cataract removal procedures.

Next week, John Cornish, Vice Chairman of the AJC, will talk about future plans for Warwick Farm where it is envisaged forty million dollars will be spent on an upgrade. This should make for a very interesting evening and may well be a good night to invite some prospective members.

Please read more, as there are a number of events that require your attention, none the least being The Combined Services Dinner. June Young has again done a great job, especially putting together some sparkling entertainment from various ‘Liverpudlians’ who have gone on to make a name for themselves in the showbiz industry, and no, The Beatles will not be performing.

Charlie.
