Tonight our club hosted Brett Smyth and Josh Grey of The Salvation Army run Liverpool West Youth Service. These two committed Salvos updated us on the work they have been doing with disadvantaged youth in our area through one on one counselling and organised youth camps. There is a very close bond between our club and the Liverpool West Youth Service as it is through the efforts and contributions of our members that this vital service was initially started. Youth Services Director, Mr Jim Leahy presented Brett with a cheque for $10,000 which will help ease the financial burden of conducting further camps over the next twelve months.

Next Week is our annual Miller College Awards Night. Past records indicate that this is usually a well attended night. It is also a partner’s night and judging by numbers on the commitment sheet which was circulated tonight, next week’s awards will not be an exception.

Last night’s meeting also attracted over 20 members, not bad for a club boasting only 26 members. Take into account that one is traversing the Nullarbor, another conducting business in Perth, another last heard of in New York – trying to get to Europe and a few others that have nightly business commitments that can preclude them from attending, then I would have to say that our weekly attendance is excellent. Mr Bob Cook, close friend of John Gibbs also attended last night. He has indicated that he is close to signing on the dotted line, by that I mean becoming our 27th active member. Bob has attended many of our meetings over the years even joining us for Christmas in Port Stevens.

Things are now hotting up for the incoming President and his board as the countdown to 1st of July continues. The President Elect and his Merry Men (and one woman), attend The District Assembly this Sunday 2nd May. Here they will hone their already exceptional people and organisational skills in readiness for their tenure in 2010/2011.

In other news, a minor miracle occurred tonight. Neither Jock nor Joe Cimino scored a prize in the raffle. The meat tray was won by Josh Grey of The Salvos, the irony being that he almost didn’t make it to the meeting. Second went to Shann and third to Frans.

See you all at the Miller College Awards next week.
