Our guest last night was Miss Kikki Tagaroulias of The Karri Aboriginal Resources Centre in Liverpool. This was the first presentation Kikki has made on behalf of the centre and we were privileged to witness it. Not a bad job either for a first timer. KARRI was established in 1999 and is a dynamic Indigenous community organisation based in Liverpool. They provide Aboriginal Child Protection Services and Community Capacity Building Programs to the Indigenous community of South-West Sydney. They develop and implement best practices in all aspects of their management and service provision and are recognised as the largest Aboriginal children’s service in NSW. Their Vision: The Indigenous community of South West Sydney will become self sufficient and achieve social and economic equality. We thank Kikki for her presentation and look forward to sharing dinner and a pep talk with her again some time soon.
Also tonight, Frans Buskermolen presented The St Vincent de Paul Liverpool Night Patrol’s Frank Hankin with a cheque in the amount of $2,500. Frank was supposed to retire at 65 but continues his good work well into his seventies. I have suggested that some of us may accompany The Night Patrol on one of their nightly rounds to see just how this service works. Frank warned that this could be a touch depressing for some, however we will forge ahead with plans to accompany Frank and see just what a great service his Patrol brings to some of our areas disadvantaged men, women and children.
Next week, our meeting has been transferred to the Combined Service Club’s Dinner being held Wednesday 26th May. Our club will be well represented with 28 members and guests attending. The following meeting will be 1st June. Due to many members being on overseas duty, it is imperative that all members turn up on this night. If you do not intend to turn up, then please advise John Gibbs. If you do not send an apology, the no apology/payment policy will be applied on this evening. Therefore YOU WILL BE CHARGED FOR DINNER. There are a number of members we have not heard from or seen in quite a while, and while it is appreciated that business or personal commitments may keep you from attending, an apology would not go astray.
Tonight’s meeting was the last meeting Ted, Bob, Jim, Joe and I will attend until 15th June. We will be flying out of Sydney on 30th May to help our good friends from “The Vietnam Vision Project”, in Vietnam. I will have my PC with me and will send a report on our progress from Ho Chi Minh City as soon as I can do so.
