We had a well attended meeting last night, particularly as we currently have 6 of our Members imbedded in the jungles of Vietnam assisting the Vietnam Vision Team with the planned 400 operations to restore the sight of needy patients, I should qualify the previous statement by clarifying that our members are helping logistically, not surgically.
Our guest speaker was Daniel Doherty from MerlinFX who presented to the club on “Social Media”. This was an interesting interactive presentation – we came to grips with Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, YouTube, MySpace and Linkedin. Daniel amazed with his presentation and the information he provided to the growth of these forums and particularly the adoption of them as their principal means of communication by Generation “Y”.
He also explained that by linking their presence on multiple Social Networks that businesses can rapidly distribute information the future market participants. He then quizzed those who were in attendance and Alan Hall was the most accurate with his answers and won the prize of a book provided by Daniel
Past President Les Still was in attendance and gave those present some of the details of the 6 weeks – 14,000 kilometre odyssey that he & PP Joe Cauchi completed last week.
This brings me the BBQ that we conduct every Saturday morning at the Warwick Farm Growers Market – as you are aware Les organizes the purchases of the basics needed for us to operate i.e. the purchase of bacon, sausages, soft drinks and all the other items needed to ensure that we operate efficiently and raise valuable funds for our Community Projects. While Les was away enjoying himself, Jan Still picked up the baton taking over and some say outperforming him. On one Saturday she filled in, when one of our members forgot to arrive on his rostered day. The job that Jan did was great and a real service to the Club. THANKS JAN
The weekend the BBQ will be manned by Alan Hall, Adam Whyte and Gary Halliday who will be ably assisted by Pauline Hall who also helps out regularly as does Indra Rudling.
Raffle Master Kevin Walker tempted those present with the carrot of a $240 Members Cash Jackpot and special bulk ticket deals, but the Jackpot continues to grow and will be $250 next week. The Meat Tray was won by Sam Capra, the Wine by Shann O’Connell and the Choccies by Gary Halliday.
Rotary Club of West Wyalong has invited us to attend their Changeover on Saturday 26 June and I am looking for other members to attend we Carol and I, we will make a long weekend of it and as usual enjoy ourselves in fellowship with our long time friends at West Wyalong. If you are interested in joining please let me know as soon as possible.
President Charles is one of those members in Vietnam – Next week PP Geoff Gibbs will be in the chair.
