The coldest night of the year did not deter the new president of Liverpool Greenway from attending last night’s meeting where she detailed plans for her club’s year ahead. Mrs June Young is already renowned for her organisational abilities in putting together such successful functions as The Police Officer of the Year Awards and The annual Combined Services Dinner. June is now focussing on staging The Christmas in July spectacular which will again involve the input of all three Liverpool Rotary clubs. The focus for her year as president is to bring the three Liverpool clubs closer together by means of holding more combined meetings with an emphasis on stronger co-operation in the organisation of functions and alike. In her own words, “fellowship between members of the three clubs and having a good time is her main focus”. June also received a pleasant surprise when handed a cheque by Shann O’Connell in the amount of $1000 which is for sponsorship of the upcoming Police Officer of the Year Awards. A special thank you is extended to Bob Cook and Sydney Blinds for their kind sponsorship of the event.
On a sad note, correspondence has been received from long serving member George Kristen, who has handed in his resignation from our club. George has found it difficult to attend meetings as he no longer lives in the Liverpool locality. George and Carmen have been great ambassadors for our club and their presence and input will be sadly missed. On a brighter note, four members of The Vietnam Vision Project have applied for membership of our club. If accepted, they will be welcomed as members on changeover night. They will form the nucleus of what will become a satellite club under our club banner and will one day be chartered as a fully fledged Rotary Club. A lot of time and effort has gone into getting this satellite club up and running and those that have been instrumental in its inception need to be recognised. They are District Governor 2009/2010, Mr Paul Reid, Joe Cauchi, Max Bunter and Jimmy Leahy. Paul’s presence and input was especially crucial to turning this dream into reality.
Joe, Frans and Allan attended The West Wyalong Rotary Club changeover last weekend and reportedly had a great time. Our club has forged a close relationship with West Wyalong, evidenced by remarks made in the changeover booklet that was made available to us. The boys even had the opportunity to see the outdoor theatre system we helped fund in full operation.
This will be my last report as President. Where has the time gone? Over the last twelve months, I have been ever mindful of the responsibilities one carries when wearing the President’s Collar every time I have represented our club. These responsibilities though, were not a burden to me as my job was actually quite easy. It was easy because you the members made it easy. You have all given me your unequivocal support at every level and I thank you for that. It has been without doubt the most rewarding and enjoyable twelve months I have experienced. We have a great club with great ongoing projects and ideals. It is also a growing club. My board and I now vacate our posts with the knowledge that we have fulfilled our custodial duty to the club and look forward to supporting Peter and his board continue and build on what is a very solid foundation.
