With a number of no shows we managed 58 persons in attendance for what was touted as a very enjoyable night, with PP John Gibbs standing in for President Peter Beadle who was unable to get an earlier flight from Brisbane to join us, and Vocational services Director PP Peter Houghton delivering the awards ceremony. Peter did the awards great justice with an elegant and passionate speech directed to our visitors endorsing the validity of the awards and the occasion. As the nominees were called forward, PP Bob Groat aided with the presentation of their plaque and Peter narrated the reasons for each individuals awards. The nominees returned to the stage for joint applause and a group photo at the end of the ceremony, thanks to our photographer on the night, our member and Secretary Ted Mlynarz.
Member Bob Cook collected at the door and ran the raffle which included a golf voucher for 4 persons to Golf at Ryde Parramatta Golf Course, donated from the hosts of our golf day at Camden lakes and won by ABC Tissues Award Nominee supporter Thida Yang. Bob also donated 6 bottles of Red wine, which was won by the Cimino Brothers who are rumoured to have taken home 3 bottles each.
Member Anthony Galea designed, and made a ‘Silver fresh water Pearl Necklace’ with matching earrings which was also donated to the raffle and taken home by Boema award nominee Judith O’Donnell. PP Frans Buskermolen took home the meat tray and PP Geoff Gibbs took home the chocolates. The raffle then grossed $433.20, with PP Geoff Gibbs having been in a charitable mood and buying a $100.00 worth of tickets. Geoff also had two nominees their on the night and paid for 11 persons in attendance who tagged themselves as Boema staff. An investigation is beginning.
Warm thanks then goes out to all who turned up and helped ensure a fitting occasion and enjoyable night. A special mention here of Ming Ly, who after wife Lang took out two tyres at the start of their journey to our club, fitted his spare wheel to the car and called up his brother who had an identical car, got his brother to drive to the scene and borrowed his brothers spare wheel to replace the second tyre and then continued his journey to be with us an Andrea Su on the night. We than had wonderful hosts in the Liverpool Catholic Club, fitting us into a large function room with umbrella shaped seating, served us alternate mains of pork and chicken followed by cheesecake desert. We were well waited on, they only charged us a normal meal amount and they reduced our billed to match the numbers that turned up as opposed to the numbers that were booked. The search party then remains yet to report.
The honours roll then one more time was;
Sue Chalker of Flora International, David Slater of Ambry Manufacturing, Tony Geci of Burson Auto Parts, Judith O’Donnell of Boema Coffee Machines, Gerard Oudin of Boema Coffee Machines, Dorothy Rodrigues of NSW Police Force. Judy Saba of NSW Police Force, Andrea Su of ABC Tissue Products, Nancy Luppino of Liverpool Catholic Club and Ajendra Singh of Fairfield High School.
Congratulations to all.
