Our Meeting of 23 Nov 2010

Immediate Past President Charles Hili was stand in President for President Peter who has that terrible cough virus going around. Sam Capra and Bob Cook are also down with the same thing. Not good fellows and we wish you a speedy recovery. We had a great night of Fellowship, just as the doctor ordered, with guest John Williams from the Rotary Club of Liverpool, Robert & Margaret Favelle from the Rotary Club of Cabramatta and Oz Harvest Chairman Ilona Lee. Youth Exchange Student Henni was also with us.

Henni has three and a half weeks of school remaining. Henni has managed a visit to Bondi since her hiking trip and will provide the Club with a report on 14 Dec. Member Anthony Galea will present another lovely lady with a Ring that evening as announced by Our Community Services Director Shann O’Connell who presented a Cheque for $2,000.00 to Ilona for the Oz Harvest cause and Rotary Club of Liverpool Treasurer John Williams presented a cheque for $4,000.00 as a result of some friends of Liverpool President Peter Lean matching the Liverpool club donation. Ilona advised that while they were already in action in Liverpool that these funds would go towards another vehicle to help expand their services in this area as they have another 19 charities awaiting services on top of the 7 they serve in our area.

PP Jim Leahy updated us with the RAWCS project application by Heide Schooling to build a school in Tanzania. Jim advised the paperwork is in train and he is endeavouring to follow through for the signature of a co-sponsoring club as required.

Secretary Ted Mlynarz updated us on so many things I ran out of ink.

A report on another successful Satellite Club organised BBQ at Freedom Plaza Cabramatta provided by Ted follows later in this bulletin complete with photos that may be accessed by those reading online.

Another Vietnam Doctor visiting in March will join the District Conference. The visiting doctors will have their accommodation sponsored by our club and this our way of showcasing Rotary and sowing seeds to get a Rotary Club started in Vietnam. A stand for Vietnam Vision will be manned at the conference. Accommodation as reserved for the conference is beginning to fill, with attendance of 26 so far and 4 more rooms held. You may check out the update and or download a registration form by visiting the District 9690 Conference article in the Coming Up section of News on our Website.

The next Rotary and VVP promotion will be on Sunday 19 December and held at Westfield’s Shopping Centre Liverpool from 9.00 am all day and we are looking for Volunteers to help make this a successful day.

Vocational Services Director Peter Houghton mentioned a visit to the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service on Thur 9 Dec and will mention again this Tues. Invitation details follow.

IPP Charles Hili drew our attention to matters coming up and PP Margaret Favelle drew the Meat Tray for herself and expressed disappointment when PP Geoff Gibbs didn’t invite her to Tennis, as he normally does invite the winner of the Meat Tray. Just put your apron on and turn up Marg.

Adopted Twins
A woman had twins and gave them up for adoption. One of them went to a family in Egypt and was named “Ahmal”, while the other went to a family and Spain and was named “Juan”. Several years later Juan sent a picture of himself to his birth mother.
Upon receiving the picture, she told her husband that wishes that she also had a picture of Ahmal. Her husband responded, “They’re twins! If you you’ve seen Juan, you’ve seen Ahmal. “
Surgery
A patient wasn't taking any chances. Prior to her operation, she taped notes to her body for the surgeon... "Take your time," "Don't cut yourself," "No need to rush," "Wash your hands..." After surgery, as the patient was being put back into her bed, she discovered a new note taped to her, this one from the doctor, "Has anyone seen my wristwatch?"
