By the 14th December we had 1003 official members. This has given us one year’s grace. It is inevitable that we will be part of a major re-districting as of 1 July 2013. Many discussions are taking place and a plan must be to R.I. by 15th March. I will keep you informed re developments.
On 14 January District Governors met at Parramatta to develop an overall plan for Rotary districts covering NSW and Qld and the other affected areas. They resolved to submit to Rotary International that the twelve existing Rotary Districts 9550, 9570, 9600, 9630, 9640, 9650, 9670, 9680, 9690, 9700, 9710, and 9750 be involved in a redistribution into eight new districts, to take effect on 1 July 2013.
The final plan on boundaries of the eight new districts is expected to be completed by the end of January, and will be advised to all districts at that time. It is expected this will include changes to every one of the twelve current districts. The proposal, as it affects individual clubs, will also be submitted to clubs in those districts. Each club will be asked to vote for or against the proposal for the new district to which the club has been allocated. These voting results will be forwarded to Rotary International.
Final decision on any proposal will be made by the Board of R.I.
For most Rotarians there will be little impact from changes that occur to the district.
Club projects and activities supporting local communities will not be affected.
Existing inter-Club activities and relationships can be maintained and there may well be new opportunities to expand on these.
There will be some changes to District Committees in the future and these will need to be worked through. It is likely that results of any elections held for DG 2013-14 will have to be reconsidered after District boundaries are clarified.
