TONIGHT’S MEETING – Tues 15 Feb 2011 – Solar Gem Presentation – Peter Beadle – LCC, 6 for 6.30 pm
Solar Gem was awarded the 2010 Australian Innovation Shoot Out, hosted at Microsoft’s Mountain View, California campus. The fourth annual Innovation Shoot Out judged companies on their ability to: •solve a recognised problem •demonstrate a clearly defined business model and market for their solutions •offer a solution superior to what’s already available, and •provide a reasonable return on investment. Solar-Gem provides modular solar-powered off-grid lighting and electricity systems, pre-pay tariff systems and high-efficiency LED lighting modules. Its target market is the 1.6 billion people around the world without access to power. Calmsley Hill City farm lit up their barn in March 2010, here in Fairfield Area NSW. Peter is looking forward to your questions.
Tonight is then the last LCC meeting before our Club Forum on 1 March and therefore tonight will be the only opportunity for members wishing to secure tickets to our National Movie Night on 23 Feb raising funds for Polio Plus and/or for our Queensland Flood Appeal Dinner to be held on Saturday night 26 Feb.
Our Club has been assigned the responsibility of organising 3 to 5 quality Items for the Live Auction to be held during the flood appeal dinner. Jointly with other Clubs we are also to sell tickets and obtain prizes for the Raffle, Wine Draw and Silent Auction
We also need to assign our representatives for the Great Debate for the meeting following 1 March and we are also in earnest in to discussion as to Catering for the PETS Multi District assembly on 12 Mar for which we need to confirm who are our volunteers and any organisational roles to be played.
Our next committee meeting for Joint Club Ventures is on Thurs 10 Feb, 6.30 pm at Hunts
CLUB REVIEW On 1 Feb we were entertained with a presentation from Adrian Beadle for which a report has been offered under the News and reports section of this bulletin.
RYLA attendees Casey Hocking and Naomi Horsley also gave a short presentation and thanked the club for their sponsorship of a week which involved motivational speakers, Rock Climbing, a mid week Bush Dance and group activities which focused on enhancing their leadership qualities, qualities to grow, to learn and to challenge themselves in a team environment. They assured us they had a wonderful and rewarding time as most of our nominees have reported in the past, suggesting the D9690 RYLA program is a program worth supporting.
The night was well supported with our First Lady; Margaret Beadle providing her laptop for the presentation, with a portrait of herself and Peter on the home page which seemed to provide a lot of interference, which temporarily would not allow initial connection to the TV. Michael and Elleneta Hocking & Family of Ronnie Houghton came along to support Naomi & Casey. Brian Aulesbrook, Principal of Sacred Heart School Cabramatta, came along to make sure Geoffrey found his way and naturally would make a very good member if we can talk him into it. We were also graced with the presence of Ms Van Nguyen and Mr Long Hoang, both from the National Australia Bank who were introduced to us through the Satellite club where they are providing sponsorship for the Cabramatta BBQ being held on Sunday 6 Feb11. Both are interested in the work done by Rotary and were invited to attend a few meetings. The first of which was on Tuesday
Following our club Picnic day at the Australia day races, sentiments were expressed that the extra race day BBQ’s were an extra burden that members could do without as we already manage 50 BBQ’s a year at the Saturday’s Growers Market held at the Warwick Farm race track and that we really did not wish to be doing extra one off BBQ’s nor the Sunday Race day BBQ’s. The Board met and carried the sediment and the AJC will be informed that we will no longer be involved in Race Day BBQ’s. Incidentally we made a small profit from both of the Race Day BBQ’s we operated.
A Report is to follow in our next Bulletin for our Networking Night on Mon 7 Mar at Maurizio’s Wetherill Park which replaced our normal Tuesday night Meeting
Congratulations to June Young
In other news to Members, Liverpool Greenway President June Young was made a Member of the Order of Australia, General Division in this year’s honours list. June is now an OAM.
The citation reads: "For service to the community through a range of women's, local government, business and ex-service organisations". A very fitting honour for a very deserving person

The Doctor Explained
Obesity is just something that sort of snacks up on you.
Comatose
A man who had been slipping in and out of a coma for months had noticed his wife was there every time he awoke, when finally he felt strong enough to talk and motioned his wife near.
He whispered with eyes full of tears, you have been with me through all the bad times, when I got fired, when my business failed, when I got shot, when the house burnt down and now when my health is failing. It’s finally dawned on me that you are just plain bad luck!
Little Johnny
Five-year old little went up to a Policeman and told him he had lost his dad.
The Policeman asked him: “What’s he like”
“Mostly Beer and women” replied Johnny
50th Anniversary Wedding
A farmer and his wife were leaning against the fence of their pig-pen when the women advised next week would be their Golden Wedding Anniversary and suggested they kill a pig.
The farmer scratched his head and then replied he didn’t see why the pig should take the blame for something that happened 50 years ago
Men are like wine
They all start out like grapes and it is a woman’s job to stomp on them and keep them in the dark until they mature into something you would like to have dinner with.
After a Church Service
A little boy told the pastor that when he grew up he was going to give him some money.
“Well, thankyou,” replied the pastor, “but why”
‘Because my daddy says you’re one of the poorest preachers we have ever had.
Early One Morning
A mother woke her son to go to school, when he exclaimed he didn’t want to go to school and that all the children and the teachers hated him. He demanded to be given a good reason why he should go to school!
“Well the fact that you are the headmaster should be reason enough” she exclaimed in reply
Blind and Brave
Bob an experienced skydiver, found himself a jump flight with a blind man all decked out to make the jump, still wearing his dark glasses, carrying his cane and holding a guide dog by an extremely long leash.
Most impressed with the blind man’s bravery, he had struck up conversation before asking with an earnest sense of curiosity: “How will you know when the ground is getting close?”
“Easy,” replied the blind man. “The leash will go slack.”
Frantic
A man spoke frantically into the phone: “She’s pregnant, in labour and her contractions are only two minutes apart!” “Is this her first child?” asked the Doctor. “NO YOU IDIOT” the man shouted, “This is her husband!
