CLUB REVIEW
Mercure Hotel Tour – Accor is a French owned and operated global leader in Hotels with more than 4,000 hotels world wide of which the Mercure is 1of 9 brands of the chain. Mercure Hotels are customised to their environment offering accommodation from 3 to 4 ½ star. The Mercure is then the largest and fastest growing brand in Australia with the Mercure at Liverpool being one of 23 offering 4,275 rooms a day.
The Mercure at Liverpool is 4 ½ star Hotel, customised predominantly for business users, with an 80 to 90% occupancy of its 104 rooms converting to approximately 600 room sales per week. Room rates are then dearer during the week then what they are on the weekend.
Room types range from Standard to Family, Privilege and Superior. An outdoor pool, Cricket pitch with white picket fence, Indoor and outdoor playground, utilising LCC Complex fitness centre and club and many other mod cons that go with a recently built 4 ½ star Hotel.
This Mercure Sydney Liverpool is franchised and is owned and operated by the Liverpool Catholic Club and staff. Accor then has a good support system in place. Success of occupancy is considered to be derived from easy access to M7 link and higher offering of standards in this area.
We were also told about the Accor Advantage Plus card available for $299.00 providing 1 night free, 10% off other stay and up to 50% off in many restaurants.
We thanked Hotel Manager Chris Donovan for his time and the Tour.
Guest included John Henshaw, tong time and well respected Solicitor of Liverpool who took home a sex manual for over 30’s after winning the raffle and Joy Gibbs, who is well known to the editor; (Mums the word). Member Bob Groat won our Meat Tray.
New Member Inducted – Congratulations is offered to Jim Halliday, whose induction to the club took place after our Hotel tour on Tuesday 15 March. Jim lives at Surry Hills and is a Solicitor working for Marsden’s Liverpool situated conveniently near the Court House. Jim first obtained a degree in accountancy before deciding being an accountant just didn’t add up for him and to become a solicitor, which he has now been for 7 years and specialising in Family Law. Wife Julia is then the accountant in the family. Jim takes on the mantle as being the youngest member of the club and we look forward to making Jim’s inclusion rewarding and enjoyable for both Jim and partner Julia.

Inter-Club
Combined Services Dinner – Wed 11 May - Sometime mid last year our Board agreed to transfer our normal meeting to the Combined Services Dinner at $40.00 pp. June Young has agreed to organise same. Our Clubs role is to organise the raffle. A letter is to be written to Catholic Club requesting support by way of a prize donation, which I will do.
June Suggests that as same serves for the launch of the Red Shield appeal any believes Harry Hunt will be inviting a lot of persons from the Business community that it may be worth our while to have a few extra prizes and suggest we write to the other clubs to ask for contribution of prizes on that basis. Other Clubs may mean Liverpool and Cabramatta Clubs.
The Hilton’s as advertised in our Bulletin have had to cancel and Paul Moulds OAM in charge of youth & welfare has been confirmed in their place.
POY - Has been booked for 20 September 2011
An Interclub committee meeting maybe expected shortly to wrap up Qld Flood, Discuss Combined Services Dinner and sort out committee members for POY meeting.
June Young has confirmed she will be overseas the week the POY event will be held and will not be standing in as Chair. Requests have previously gone to all clubs to identify at least 3 committee members and for each Liverpool Rotary Club to put forward a nominee for the role of Chair, Secretary or Treasurer.
Any nominee from our club may then be entitled to know of what qualified support they can expect from the Board and/or Club.

Stunning Overhaul Results
A 54 year old woman had a heart attack and was taken to the hospital.
While on the operating table she had a near death experience.
Seeing God she asked "Is my time up?"
God said, "No, you have another 43 years, 2 months and 8 days to live."
Upon recovery, the woman decided to stay in the hospital and have a face-lift, liposuction, breast implants and a tummy tuck.
She even had someone come in and change her hair colour and brighten her teeth! Since she had so much more time to live, she figured she might as well make the most of it.
After her last operation, she was released from the hospital. While crossing the street on her way home, she was killed by an ambulance.
Arriving in front of God, she demanded, "I thought you said I had another 43 years? Why didn't you pull me from out of the path of the ambulance?"
God replied: "I didn't recognize you."
Mother takes the blame
A couple was going out for the evening. They'd gotten ready, all dolled up, but just needed to put the dog out when the taxi arrives.
However as the couple walked out of the house, the dog shoots back inside. They don't want the dog shut in the house, so the wife goes out to the taxi while the husband goes upstairs to chase the dog out.
The wife, not wanting it known that the house will be empty, explains to the taxi driver: 'He's just going upstairs to say good-bye to my mother.'
A few minutes later, the husband gets into the cab. 'Sorry I took so long' he says. 'Stupid bitch was hiding under the bed and I had to poke her with a coat hanger to get her to come out! Then I had to wrap her in a blanket to keep her from scratching and biting me as I hauled her butt downstairs and tossed her in the back yard! She better not s*it in the vegetable garden again!'
The silence in the cab was deafening.
