Mayor Wendy Waller was presented with a portrait painted by renowned artist Pamela Rodoreda of Governor Lachlan Macquarie, who founded Liverpool on 7 November 1810 and named it after the Earl of Liverpool. The painting is a result of proceeds of last years Combined Services Dinner and will be housed at the New Liverpool Council Chambers once established.
The proceeds from this year’s Combined Services Dinner will appropriately go to the Salvation Army as part of the launch of the Red Shield Appeal. The raffle this year was run by the Rotary Club of Liverpool West with over $1,000.00 of prizes donated by Rob Griffiths of Liverpool Fright night Comedy Theatre Restaurant, an LCD TV to the value of $400.00 and other prizes donated by Inner Wheel, The Rotary Club of Liverpool West and the Rotary Club of Liverpool Greenway. Together with donations including $1,200.00 from Mr Anonymous, proceeds of the night were $2,196.00. The raffle was competently run and handled by President Peter Beadle, President Elect Ted Mlynarz, Liverpool West Satellite Club member dr Le-Duc Hong and our bulletin editor.
Many of the countless services provided by the Salvation Army are well known to most and too many to mention here. In general terms they spend annually $97 million on social programs, $65 million on Aged Care and $56 million on Employment and Youth Training. Their Fact File tells us that in the last 12 months they have helped provide shelter to 5,447 people facing homelessness and offered welfare support to 232,434 people in the Australian Eastern Territory (NSW, ACT & QLD)
Importantly the Salvation holds one appeal being the Red Shield door Knock Appeal ran annually on the last Weekend in May from which they hope to raise at least $37 million
