Hi Everyone
A very, very, big thank you for everyone’s support! There were 19 attendees in total with 13 of them who were eligible to roll up their sleeves and give blood. We collectively saved 39 lives! That is a great effort especially during this Christmas period when supplies are low!

This year’s Presidential citation requires 100% participation from your members by giving to the Annual Programs Fund. They require a personal donation from every member of your Club as an essential part of the citation, which means an amount from every member between 1st July, 2011 and 31st March, 2012.

For the last 9 years, the Rotary Club of Liverpool West has split the proceeds with Drug Arm that it receives from the annual fundraising event, built around ‘The Children’s Circus Spectacular’ which sees up to 14,000 children and or persons from disadvantaged groups attend free in April each year with the kind support of the Liverpool Catholic Club, who provide the grounds at no charge.

Mayor Wendy Waller was presented with a portrait painted by renowned artist Pamela Rodoreda of Governor Lachlan Macquarie, who founded Liverpool on 7 November 1810 and named it after the Earl of Liverpool. The painting is a result of proceeds of last years Combined Services Dinner

Terry Delatorre, a member of the Rotary Club of Liverpool Greenway Rotarian came along to our club on 12 April as a guest speaker. Terry is a head injury victim and was released from a head injury ward in August 1990, classified as a Semi Vegetable, with no control of his limbs

Currently, a dedicated website and telephone number has been set up, and tax deductibility for donations through a specific bank account will be available. The Toowoomba-based group is also liaising on a daily basis with Flood Coordination Centres in all affected areas in a bid to best match local requirements with the wide-ranging resources available through Rotary Clubs Australia-wide.
Whilst not primarily a first response relief organisation, many Rotarians are at present actively involved in clean-ups, emergency accommodation and supplies and supplying meals for displaced families and relief helpers.

Rayan Saleh Moussa has been awarded the PhD scholarship for the study of "THE ROLE OF METALS FOR THE TREAMENT OF CANCER AND DEVELOPMENT OF NOVEL ANTI-TUMOUR AGENTS FOR THE TREATMENT OF MELANOMA".

Rayan will be supervised by in these studies by Professor Des, Richardson at the University of Sydney.

The aim of the research project is to examine the development of novel drugs for the treatment of melanoma.

We had 26 persons attend our last meeting to be held at the Catholic Club for the 2010 Year including a surprise visit organised for Kay Morris, by and then accompanied by her friends Linda Lambourne, Ingrid Little, Jan Crowfoot and Belinda Crowfoot. The evening revolved around a presentation by our youth exchange student Henni Niemi on how she spent her first five months in Australia and a presentation of gifts for Kay as organised and acquired by Kay’s friends with additional cash added by Liverpool West and an intricate ring made by member Anthony Galea.
The very next day Linda Lambourne sent this letter of appreciation to our Community Services Director Shann O’Connell;

At our Meeting on Tuesday, 29 June 2010 (6 for 6:30 p.m.) our Guest speaker will be Ronni Kahn who will speak about her organisation, Oz Harvest.

Ronni was recently named Australia's Local Hero 2010. This award, one of four in the Australian of the Year Award categories, recognises outstanding community members who have made a significant contribution or achievement.

OzHarvest is a not-for-profit organisation that rescues unwanted food from restaurants, retailers, food outlets and corporate kitchens across Sydney, Canberra and Wollongong to feed communities at risk
