Projects

The club is currently financially supporting the following projects:

Research Fellowships in conjunction with the Australian Rotary Health.
The Club is currently funding a 3 year PhD Scholarship for Rayan Moussa at Sydney University looking into treatment of Melanomas - this research is building on previous research by Prof. Des. Richardson's team (see below). This involves Club funding of up to $40,000 over the term of the Scholarship.

In past years funding has been provided for:-

Treatments for Parkinson’s Disease – Funding was provided for a 3 year research project by a team led by Professor Jasmine Henderson at Sydney University investigating new medical treatments for Parkinson’s Disease. The club is providing $90,000 which has been matched by the Australian Rotary Health. The club provided $90,000 which was matched by the Australian Rotary Health.


Treatments for Prostate Cancer
– Funding was provided for a 2 year research project by a team led by Professor Des. Richardson at Sydney University into a new treatment for Prostate and other cancers. The club provided $60,000 which was matched by the Australian Rotary Health.

The Club is currently looking to fund a new project.

Vietnam Cataract Eye Surgery Project

The club provides annual funding to a team led by local surgeons which travels to Vietnam each year performing up to 300 operations restoring sight, free of charge for the poor of Vietnam. Members of the Club also travel with the team at their own expense to provide logistical support to the group.

Bali Eye Hospital (Fawcett Foundation)

The club provide annual support to the Bali Eye Hospital which provides free treatment for Cataract blindness to the people of Bali.

Liverpool West Youth Service
Established in 2006 in conjunction with the Salvation Army this service works with students at Lurnea and Casula High Schools providing courses in self esteem and anger management, youth camps and in conjunction with Miller College introductory course to various trades. It also provides camps for other children.

Green Valley Police Camp
This annual youth camp organised by the Green Valley Local Area Police Command take local teenagers who have come to the notice of the command on a weekend camp. The police officers volunteer their time to work with these kids and have had great success in building ongoing relationships. This camp has proved its worth year after year with a virtual zero re-offend instance.

Liverpool PCYC Boorie Program
This award winning program was run by the LIverpool PCYC and was funded by the club. It took Aboriginal youths and as well as teaching them how to box and surf has a recognised local Aboriginal Artist teach them how to traditionally decorate a didgeridoo which they kept.
