APRIL 2020
As we settle into Autumn, we are in an involuntary period of inactivity in our Club’s Operation with no regular meetings and we are all suffering from raffle withdrawal. Our lives go on, only in a different way as we all try to do the right thing to limit the transmission of COVID-19 which put the planet into various form of shutdown. During this period, we will only issue the Newsletter on a monthly basis with special notices if required.

Our Club like the rest of Australia has had to cancel many things as we adjust to the current situation, including: -

  1. Our Drought Relief Projects in Narromine and Trangie have been suspended until October 2020;
  2. The distribution of Easter Eggs to children in the Narromine Shire through the Schools had to be cancelled – they have been instead distributed to the homeless in the Liverpool area;
  3. Our Annual Children’s Circus has been postponed until August 2020 at this stage;
  4. The proposed Special General Meeting to adopt a new constitution will be rescheduled for a later time; and
  5. The proposed fund-raising dinner to benefit Youth Off the Streets has been put on hold.

We are still working in our Community, Youth Service Director Tissa Perera has finalised the provision of and iPad Pro for a visually impaired student in the Liverpool area. This should be delivered before Easter.

As mentioned before the Easter Eggs we purchased for distribution in the Narromine and Trangie areas have been donated to Turbans 4 Australia and will be distributed to the homeless as they make their nightly meal distributions. Ptresident Sam Capra and PP Jim Rudling are pictured below donating the Eggs_

Our Members only raffle jackpot will be $90
 When next we meet, the wine we offer for prizes is aging gracefully and our supply of exciting chocolates and mystery prizes are just waiting to be won.

 Paraprosdokians

The first time I heard about paraprosdokians, I liked them.  Paraprosdokians are figures of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected and is frequently humorous. (Winston Churchill loved them.)
  • Where there's a will, I want to be in it.
  • The last thing I want to do is hurt you.... , but it's still on my list.
  •  Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
  •  If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.
  •  We never really grow up; we only learn how to act in public.
  • War does not determine who is right, only who is left.
  • Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit.  Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad.
  • To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism. To steal from many is research.
  • I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
  • In filling out an application, where it says, "In case of emergency, notify....". I answered, "a doctor."
  • You do not need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.
  • I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure.
  • To be sure of hitting the target, shoot first, then call whatever you hit the target.
  • You're never too old to learn something stupid.
  • If I could just say a few words, I'd be a better public speaker.
  • Money can't buy happiness, but it sure makes misery easier to live with.
  • Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
  • I sleep eight hours a day and at least ten at night.
  • On the other hand, you have different fingers.
  • She got her good looks from her father; he's a plastic surgeon.
  • The voices in my head may not be real, but they have some good ideas!
  • I can read minds, but I'm illiterate.
  • I always take life with a grain of salt, plus a slice of lemon, and a shot of tequila.
  • The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits.

I was driving this morning when I saw a parked NRMA van.  The driver was sobbing uncontrollably and looked very miserable.
I thought to myself, that guy's heading for a breakdown.

My daughter asked me for a pet spider for her birthday, so I went to our local pet shop and they were $70!!!
Blow this, I thought, I can get one cheaper off the web.

Murphy says to Paddy, "What ya talkin into an envelope for?"
"I'm sending a voicemail ya thick sod!"

An Asian fellow has moved in next door. He has travelled the world, swum with sharks, wrestled bears and climbed the highest mountain.
It came as no surprise to learn his name was Bindair Dundat.
