August 1- Happy Horses Birthday

In Australia, every horse has its birthday on the first day of August each year - known as the horses' birthday.

And while it might not be their exact birth day, the date of August 1 allows standardisation in horse events, like racing, and is linked to the breeding season of horses.

Meeting – 30 July 2019

Apologies: Jim Rudling, Peter Beadle

President Sam attended District Presidents meeting Friday 26th July. Sam reported on two topics that were of interest to our club - the “Adopt a Town” drought relief programme and “The Train Ride to end Polio initiative”. Our club will discuss the former at length.
Sam is also trying to organise a joint meeting with Liverpool and Liverpool Greenway Clubs for when the District Governor Di North makes her official visit later in the year.

Secretary Charles tabled the resignation of member Tara Sharma due to distance issues. She however is considering joining Rotary Club of Hurstville Club, which is closer to where she works.
Jim Rudling has had a further meeting with Mounties Board Members, which will be explained at next meeting.
Tissa Perera has agreed to handle the Youth Portfolio whilst John Pillay is on ADG duties. Jim Rudling will ably assist him.
Preliminary results of the club survey was outlined and a further more in depth document has been distributed for discussion at our Club Forum on 6 August 2019. Once you have read this document be prepared for this discussion which will shape the future direction of your Club.
Treasurer Gary again reiterated that club dues are now due. 36% of members are now financial are you one of them?
He also advised that our telemarketing campaign has commenced for our Circus in May 2020, while it is early day it is doing better than for the same period last year.

Community Services Director Shiva has organised the last two Guest speakers and Program Director Ted has two more booked for coming meetings –

We will have a presentation from “the Story Factory” a non profit creative writing centre on 27th August.

The challenge to you is to help Ted by letting him know of interesting speakers, providing him with contact details so he can organise for them to come to our club.

International Director Rinna Ly highlighted the upcoming AHHA humanitarian trip to Cambodia just over two weeks from leaving Australia, with a number of club members going to support this worthwhile effort..

ZONE 8 ROTARY CONFERENCE
In September the Zone 8 Rotary Conference will be held in Christchurch New Zealand from 20 – 22 September 2019. The Zone conference is a highlight of the year in our zone and could be described as a bridge between our local conference and the international convention. Previously known as the Zone Institute, this Zone 8 Conference is open to all Rotarians to attend and participate in. You will be able to meet and make new friends and learn more about the amazing work of Rotary. This will also be an opportunity show your support for the people of Christchurch especially after the earthquake, and the recent tragic events that impacted so many people. The breakout groups on Saturday afternoon will also be very special. The President of Rotary International, Mark Maloney and his wife Gay, will be present and Mark will be talking about his vision for the future of Rotary. It promises to be a great weekend. I would urge you to attend, below are the links to register. www.rotaryoceania.zone/page/rotaryzone8conference.
