Annual Pride of Workmanship Night 27 October 2020

We had a good crowd of around 60 people in attendance for this annual event.
President Charles Hili welcomed the Nominees, their families and friends as well as ADG Renga Rajan, President of Liverpool Rotary Club Barry Hancock with Members Keith Bainbridge and Ron Watkins. We had an apology from Peter Beadle.

Secretary Ted Mlynarz was MC on the Night and in conjunction with Vocational Service Director Russell Soedjadi introduced each of the Nominees present detailing the reasons they were receiving this award and presenting them with an engraved plaque. Because of work and other commitments, four of the nominees were unable to attend on the night and arrangements have been made to see they receive their award.

This night was a joint function with the Rotary Club of Liverpool who had provided two of the nominees. We thank them for their participation and support in making the night a success.

We appreciate the assistance provided to us by the Mounties Community Club in providing a venue that met all the Covid Safe requirements and to the caterers for an excellent meal.

Drought Relief Narromine District.
Following discussions with Narromine Rotary Club we are now planning to hold a Community BBQ (Probably at the CWA Hall at Narromine) at the end of January to start the process of distributing Drought Relief Vouchers for the following reasons:
  • Harvest should be happening over the next couple of months which ties up the farmers and their wives;
  • The unpredictability of the weather is putting a lot of mental stress on the farmers and they are not likely to be coming into town;
  • if the rain comes (and it has started) then if there is something that can be harvested it could be delayed by weeks;
  • The delay could take harvest through to December/January;
  • By the end of January, the farmers will be looking for a way to celebrate or commiserate;
  •  January is also a slow time for local retailers so it would help them at that time; and
  • At that stage families may need assistance for ‘return to school’ necessities.
So, it looks like our next trip to Narromine will be around the Australia Day Long Weekend in 2021.

Our next BBQ is on Saturday 31 October 2020 at CrossRoads.
We will then have done 2 BBQs in October - going forward we will be trying to schedule one BBQ each month.
